Gathering Stories

August - October
2021
We start our research by reading reports about long-term care and inviting long-term care workers, residents, and their loved ones to speak with us. After completing each interview, our Project Director transcribes the conversation and reflects on what she has learned. She consults with the rest of the project team about her observations.
After speaking to a few dozen people by the end of Phase 1, we will have identified key themes and issues for consideration as we create the play.
Creating the Play

October - December
2021
The Project Director draws on the testimonies and insights from participant stories to develop characters and create scenes. A carefully selected group of actors who have experience working in, living in, or caring for long-term care residents will test out the scenes and give the Project Director feedback.
The Project Director then works with the actors to create a final script, which is reviewed by long-term care experts prior to production.
Sharing the Story

January - April
2022
With the help of a creative team of actors and technicians, we rehearse the play and stage it online, using Zoom as our theatre.
This recording is shown live to participants in the study and their friends and family members. It is also seen by healthcare workers, policymakers, and members of the public so that many Ontario residents are able to hear and learn from the stories shared.
